Our respect heightened for Mr & Mrs Viscount from the 60's, when it came time to re-fit the roof frame, complete with its internal lining. This was super tricky, because of the slight curve and it had to lock in nicely to the front and rear curved sections. We would have lifted it up and down about 6 times, before we got it right. The secret is... not to put glue on every single cross member when you are glueing the ceiling panel on as that doesn't allow enough 'play' for the curve to do its thing. This is a tip definitely worth remembering if you're doing a full Reno.
We used a very nice satin finished ply which is lightly patterned. We had been advised that this is much better to have on the ceiling to eliminate too many reflections from a super shiny surface. We're glad we listened to that advice as it looks really beautiful.
Once the lining was fixed to the centre of the ceiling, Carl was able cut out the opening for the air-conditioner, which would be fitted down the track a little. Even though we already had the nice new air-con, we were working towards a deadline to get the van registered.
Here we are doing one of the many trial runs
Finally managed to make everything line up nicely and it was looking very strong.
Looking good, still needing just a few adjustments to close the gap between the ceiling and wall.
