FOCUS ON DRAWERS

The time had come for us to finish the drawers and the doors on the cupboards. Carl constructed the drawers under the bench, which would be home for cutlery, crockery, tea towels etc. The top two drawers were a bit fiddly as he had to work around the bedside recess that was already in place and the plumbing as well on the other side.

We had decided that we wanted to have the doors and drawers finished in high gloss 2 pack paint. So off to the professionals to get a quote. Which of course was a rather frightening price. Just five cupboard doors and four drawer fronts — $800. Whoah! We took a deep breath and thought we'd have a crack at doing them ourselves. We looked at each other and said, "Surely, we can do this, what would be the worst thing that could go wrong!" "Let's do ti!" So we did!

We went to the professional paint supply shop and he mixed up some 2 pack spray cans for us after matching the colour exactly with the wall panelling, so we were as prepared as possible. We listened carefully to his instructions, which included sanding the surfaces first and then using a plastic primer, and away we went. And I am very pleased to say, we nailed it! Yay! They look amazing!

Just look at that beautiful finish!

Now it was time to fit some knobs on the drawer fronts.
