Many people had warned us of the arduous task of preparing the windows for a complete makeover, so I decided now would be a good time to begin this process. Will list the products used for this tedious job in a later blog post. The first window frame took me about 8 hours of hard work, stripping it back to the raw aluminium and getting it ready for the next stage. More on this later...
Now came the time to choose the flooring and prepare the ply flooring in readiness. We coated the floor with the recommended sealer and then off for yet another trip to Bunnings. We excitedly returned with our lovely new Senso 'White Pecan Self Adhesive Planks'. https://www.bunnings.com.au/senso-914-x-152-x-2mm-2-2sqm-rustic-white-pecan-self-adhesive-vinyl-planks-16-pack_p6610226
We noticed with great interest, when we had completed the job, that the packaging specifically said that it is NOT recommended for caravans. So back to Bunnings we went as we were told by a mature male shop assistant that they would be fine as they were lighter than the thicker planks that we first liked. They were extremely apologetic and offered to refund our purchase. We wondered how that would help when we couldn't return the used planks.
After thinking about the dilemma overnight and rang the manufacturers the next day. They backed up their claim that they were definitely unsuitable for caravans because of the constant change in temperatures inside a caravan and over time predicted shrinkage etc. So after contemplating the issue, we decided to take Bunnings up on their offer to refund our purchase. However they went one step further and allowed us to choose any sheet vinyl flooring we would like to help out as they acknowledged that the assistant should not have recommended the planks. We chose one of their top quality ones which has a very similar pattern. Certainly didn't want to have any issues down the track, especially when all the cupboards and bed are all fitted over the top of the flooring. So we are happy.
