Because of the tiny-ness of the van, an east-west double bed was the only option. One which could be hinged to reveal all the storage area underneath. We used a sheet of 12ml ply and to create ventilation, we used a large hole saw and made about 20 holes which works really well and much easier than making a base with slats.
