MORE FINISHING TOUCHES

Updated: Aug 3, 2019

A few more finishing touches to the interior, with baskets in place, securing the microwave and installing some of the light fittings. Baskets were from Bunnings and were natural coloured cane but I preferred them to appear slightly grey. So I wiped them over lightly with white lime wash which had a hint of grey in it. When they were dry, painted them with a clear low-sheen lacquer. They look great!

The 'forehead' as we affectionately call the top curved section above the front window, was quite a work of art. Redesigning it to be more secure and solid, unlike the original van. We have created a central support to help the rounded aluminium to retain its shape. You will see that we chose to line the forehead, so the finished cupboards would be more user-friendly, this would also support the insulation as well.

Look through the following slideshow to see more pics of the 'forehead'.

And then there was the porthole... oh the porthole!! What a sweet part of the Reno. Before we even found a van to rebuild, I always knew I wanted it to end up Navy and White and it would definitely have a porthole. So this part of the Reno was very exciting.

Carl added an aluminium support panel into the frame which would support the porthole. The porthole is a genuine marine grade porthole, so would withstand the elements.

After many years having my own business in Events, I completely understand the critical element of lighting. It can truly make or break an atmosphere. Nothing worse than creating a beautiful environment and then having a bank of fluorescent tubes turned on! Yuk!

Lighting was super important to us, as neither of us like 'cold' clinical lighting and much prefer 'warm' ambient light, but recognise the difficulty in achieving a result that gives adequate lighting as well. So much thought was given to this. And we are happy! Delightfully happy!

We only have one 'Natural Light' LED in the ceiling, 'warm light' down-lights underneath the overhead cupboards and two 'white light' bedside lamps. And they are all 12volt of course.

We are really not sure we want to end up with a television, but decided to put the wiring in, just in case. We couldn't wait to do a 'dry run' with our beautiful new glass handbasin. It's going to be great!
