PLANNING THE RENO ROUTE

The first week we just couldn't believe we had acquired such a 'cute' little van. We had envisaged one perhaps a little longer than this one, but we felt excited for different reasons and decided to focus on the 'cute' factor.

It was still parked near Ian's big shed which is five minutes from our home and each day we would find a reason to go and sit in it to plan and dream. Ian suggested that we should talk to a guy he knew called Mark, who was a genius with caravans and in fact had built many in his life. He was sure he would give us some guidance on where to start with it all. So we did!

We had a long conversation with Mark about our dreams and he shared his knowledge a little and made some very helpful suggestions. So we went home and considered our options. Would we do a cosmetic facelift or strip her right back to her naked body and begin a complete transformation? Hmmmm! Lots to consider. Both critical factors, time and of course budget.

Because Carl and I are both designers in the creative world and really like things done well, we decided to approach the project being fully committed to a complete makeover, doing as much of it as we could ourselves, being guided by Mark and if necessary commission Mark to help out if need be.

We decided to get some pics of underneath once it was jacked up ready for sandblasting.

It was very exciting to see its ID number become much cleaner after the rust was removed.

The ever kind and generous Ian suggested we work on the van in his big shed and also helped out by sandblasting the chassis and then we had it spray-painted white. Which was probably a bit premature as you will see in a later blog post.

Great work Chris - Thanks

Forklifted up onto the blocks to be sprayed

It looks soooo tiny!
