WINDOW RESURRECTION

We have heard other people say that the windows are by far the worst job in any renovation, and after restoring ours — we would agree! After the initial 16 hours of relentless work, scraping, scrubbing, scouring and sheer elbow grease, we were very grateful that our little van only had three windows and one front clip-down awning. I tried anything that anyone suggested to remove the 50+ years worth of caulk, glues, grit and grime. I must say, that Shellite was excellent, especially in the final stages of the cleaning. I also had an excellent little tool which artists use when they paint, called a spatula. The pointy nature of this spatula helped to get into some of the more difficult cracks and crevices. My hands have never been the same since!

As part of the cleaning process, I also carefully used a nylon brush that fitted to a hand drill. This helped get some of the excess off and then did the finer detailing by hand.

This was such a satisfying moment! All ready for the powder coater. Yay!

I know it doesn't look much — but a solid week of work right there!!!
