'FIDDLE LEAF BARN' REVISITED

For all those loving foliage, then this Blog post is probably not for you. A seriously out of control Monstera Deliciosa had spent a long time making itself right at home on the barn roof. Because we need to fix the roof and make it more weatherproof, the foliage needs to go. Has to be seen to be believed! Pretty much like everything about this place. Our boys were invaluable!

It doesn't look that bad - right? Well you just watch this space.

I wanted to boys to climb on the roof to help get all this mess off as I was worried the old roof might not hold my weight, but when as the boys pulled everything off, we couldn't believe how much weight was on that roof. We estimated that there was over a ton of weight, consisting of the heavy water-filled stems of the plant, all the fine matted vines and at least 3-4 inches of compost.

Actually beautiful leaves for flower decorating, but much, much better to be sourced from someone else's garden. Yes! Just check out the tangled web of tendrils permeating every orifice. Shocking!!!

The poor kids had to work so hard to unearth all the tangled matting that had intertwined itself between all the sheets of corrugated iron. Terrible stuff!

Quite incredible just how much compost was on the roof underneath the thick bed of matted roots.

A very welcome trip to the tip and what a wonderful help were our boys.

Finally! All cleaned up and ready to renovate the roof.

Check out the following link to remind you of the original barn...

The place looked so much better before you chopped the streetscape away !!! Now it's just neat and tidy ordinary ugliness.
