Carl was desperate to create a vege garden on his new country estate, so with a plan in place, we set about on that mission. The first thing we needed to do was establish some drainage, which of course had never ever been done and when it rained, there were patches of the garden that looked like mini ponds. Carl set about digging 30 metres of drain and we created a wonderful rubble drain which connected to the storm water drain in the 'Dunny Lane'.
We were also unsure of what materials we would construct the raised garden bed from, but our friends Zac and Dora solved that problem for us by donating three beautiful solid 'round-backs'. Heavy as lead but perfect!
Drainage complete, now time to wrestle with the 'thumping' heavy roundbacks for the vege patch.
We had three strong slabs of hardwood to work with, which wasn't quite enough for the entire vege garden, so we chose to use them along the front and incorporate some recycled corrugated iron each end, which seemed to suit our little cottage as well. Leaving us with one slab left over.
The rounded side went on the inside, so we could see the lovely flat grey surface on the outside.
Of course one of our Cherrybimbles decided there was a great photo opportunity from the roof of the shipping container along the laneway boundary.
Almost done and looking rather proud of himself. Good job PaPa!
Some wonderful soil delivered from the local landscape garden supplier.
Quite an impressive bit of driving there Sir.
This seems to be as much fine as pressing grapes.
All done and time for a bit of a rest.
Even though it is not prime time for planting crops, we couldn't resist getting some seedlings in.
With one slab of timber left over, of course I came up with a creative plan for it! Works a treat!
